Kölsch style beer. Brewed in collaboration with Beers without Beards to celebrate International Womens Day. This year we were able to take part in the International Womens Collaboration Brew Day on March 8th to brew with the beer enthusiasts, @beerswobeards. We decided to brew a kölsch style beer with the aim to source all the ingredients from other women who work in the industry to highlight their importance in the production of beer.
The malt that went into the collab was a blend of Bere and Scotch Annat from @craftymaltsters in Fife, grown and malted by Alison Milne and her partner Daniel. They’ve been doing some amazing work in bringing back heritage varieties of barley, which obviously caught our attention from the early days of Newbarns. Head to their account to see what they’ve been up to lately!
Hop wise, we went with whole leaf Olicana from @stocksfarmhomebrewhops down in Worcester where I was in touch with Felicity Beaumont. She deals with the hops for home brewers and their social media. It was a hard choice between all the hops they had available, but we went with Olicana in the end as it just smelled too delicious not to go into the brew.
And finally the beer was brewed by Emma with the help of some of the members of Beers without Beards. The fermentation and lagering of the beer was looked after by Holly.
