Epochal A Pleasant Tomb
Scottish Stock Pale Ale hopped with Mandarina Bavaria and fermented in oak. This crisp stock beer was brewed with Pilsner malt and hopped with lots of whole flower Mandarina Bavaria from Locher Hopfen in Tettnang, kings of German hops.
It was open-fermented warm to encourage fruity esters before wood ageing with more whole flower hops to encourage deep funks and further vibrant hop expression. The beer pours golden with richly fluffed foam and aromas of stewed clementine, ripe mango and passion fruit. On the palate, dryness, softness, bitterness and a flutter of refreshing acidity. Lovely stuff.
The name comes from a poem by Baudelaire written about a bottle of booze singing in the first person:
"For I feel a boundless joy when I flow
Down the throat of a man worn out by his labour;
His warm breast is a pleasant tomb
Where I'm much happier than in my cold cellar."
