Whiplash's take on a modern Belgian Pale Ale uses a traditional Belgian base pale ale and throwing in a complementing mix of American hop varieties. Using a base of Pilsner malt, Cara Malt, Wheat and some Irish Flaked Oats, this one gets a heavily hopped whirlpool treatment of El Dorado before being fermented on our house Belgian yeast. The brewers then dry hop in two stages with Hallertau Blanc, BRU-1 and Azacca up to 16g/L as is our modus operandi around here. The result is a meeting of old world and new, with Hallertau Blanc giving a wine like but continental hoppy base for BRU-1 to push its bubblegum on top and Azacca to flesh out the whole affair with ripe pineapple and a touch of dank.
Lightly hazy from heavy hopping, this beer finishes refreshingly dry while remaining bright, light and pretty refreshing with a pretty heavy nose of all things esters and hops.
